Join us on October 1st 2011 for our 4th Annual *Convoy for a Cure*In July of 2008, I, Rachèle Champagne, was heading West on highway 401 in Ontario along with one of my dearest friend Jennifer Duval and collegue Shelly Fry Hoernicke, who both haul for Lavigne Truck Lines. I remember saying "Wow! we got ourselves a women's convoy here" it was the first time I'd gone down the road with two other female truck drivers, and that's when it hit me "Women's Convoy" How it would be fun to have an ALL female convoy. For a couple of days, I just couldn't get the idea out of my head so I decided to pursue it. I decided that if I was going to do this, I might as well turn it into a fundraiser. So I chose breast cancer for the cause as it's a disease that affects thousands of women every day all over the world. That's when "Convoy For A Cure" (CFAC) was born. Three months later, on October 18th 2008, the first ALL female truck convoy in the world was taking place in Ontario Canada on Highway 401, from Cornwall ON to Cardinal ON (62 km's) with 29 female truck drivers at the wheel. I had gotten over $10,000 in sponsorships and together we raised close to $15,000 for the *Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation* The event was such a huge success that in 2009, three other "Convoy For A Cure's" we're born. One in Alberta, New Brunswick and Dallas Texas. 2010 saw a second Convoy born in Ontario and for 2011, a new convoy is being organised in Ohio. Just a little before the 2010 convoy, I met a fellow truck driver who's wife had passed away from breast cancer, he shared his disapointment for not being able to participate in our convoy being an ALL female convoy. It was then that I decided to have a *support convoy* for the men. Doing a mix convoy was a huge success, 18 men showed up, and proudly decorated their rigs in pink ribbons, total trucks: 53 In light of this event now being for both men and woman, I've decided that it would be nice to be able to help both male and female cancers. As of 2011, not only is all the money we raise going directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, but we will be raising money for the *TOP 4* cancers:
The participants will get to choose which cancer cause they would like they would like to help. I would like to thank Chantal Rheault for all her hard work and all the time and effort she puts in every day to help make this event a huge success. I'd especially like to thank all my sponsors for all your support, without you, there would be no Convoy. Thanks to the team at Truckstopquebec.com for all your support and especially for believing in me. Thanks to all my friends, my sister Jessyca, my partner Mario and my beautiful children for all your support and especialy for believing in me, I love you all!
